The former Cosmonaut Pavilion in Moscow in 2007 — turned into a flea market for gardening supplies. A banner hawking supplies obscures the large round image of Gagarin, which is itself covered by a tarp — as if to hide the shame of the cosmonaut’s profane surroundings. I have not visited the pavilion since 2007, so I would be curious to know if it was returned to its former commemorative function for the 50th anniversary (as I had been told by vendors it would be).
